APX10™ wins IWA Project Innovation Award in Copenhagen

IWA Project Innovation Awards APX10 Herning Vand

We are pleased to announce that APX10 together with Herning Vand (public utility company) have won an innovation award in the project innovation category at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition, which is held for the first time in Copenhagen, Denmark. Selected among more than 200 projects from 50 countries in the category ‘Smart Systems and the Digital Water Economy the APX10 software received the silver medal (second place). APX10 and Herning Vand receives the international innovation award for the development of the “data|APX®” asset management software, which can kick-start the digitalisation of water and wastewater utilities worldwide.

Partnership has been the key to success
With a global ambition to support water utilities in reaping value from existing data – and ultimately optimising utility budgets and the environment – the data|APX® software product was conceived in spring 2017. Product launch of the data|APX® solution took place in spring 2018, with Herning Vand as a key contributor and reference project.

Herning Vand is very proud of the award. Director Niels Møller Jensen says:

We are very happy and immensely proud that our good cooperation with APX10 has been selected among more than 200 projects from 50 countries to receive silver at the IWA Innovation Award. At the same time, we are modestly very proud that a tool developed on the basis of very concrete needs here, can hopefully in the future bring both environmental and economic benefits to our colleagues in many other countries”.

Ulrich Borup Hansen, CEO of APX10, agrees and is thrilled that the company now receives an international award for the cooperation with Herning Vand. A collaboration that has contributed to the solution data|APX® in a few years from the idea stage to a commercial product with great export potential.

“We are very honoured to receive an innovation award during IWA in Copenhagen. At Herning Vand, they appreciate that scalability is the key to success when it comes to creating commercial results in the water industry. We’ve seen that the data|APX® product and the initial thoughts and ideas that were created together with Herning Vand and other forward-thinking utilities have proven to have international scalability – with our software solution already implemented at water utilities in other European countries and just now being launched in North America. By this award our effort is now recognised by the international water community, for which I and the entire team are very grateful”, says Ulrich Borup Hansen, CEO, APX10.

IWA awarding an innovation prize to Herning Vand and APX10
The 13th edition of the Project Innovation Awards (PIA) programme features six categories with three finalists each. Each category recognises a distinct aspect of water innovation, from breakthroughs in research to innovations in governance. The 13th IWA Project Innovation Awards attracted a record 203 applications from 52 countries during an open nomination process throughout 2021 and 2022.

The Project Innovation Awards recognize that our shared challenges can be overcome through the development and implementation of creative water solutions. The data|APX® project was independently evaluated by a panel of expert judges according to its innovative nature and key outcomes. Judges also took into account the circumstances in which each project was devised and its potential for broader impact. Following a rigorous and competitive evaluation process, the judging panel selected a top three for each category.

The cooperation with Herning Vand and other Danish utilities has contributed to APX10 being today the market leader in Denmark in decision support software for pipeline renewal in water and wastewater utilities, and the software-as-a-service solution data|APX® is entering several international markets.
